Before digital skills,
there was plenty of trying.
I wanted to handle my needs without always wondering who I could ask for help.
I grew up in a large family and experienced financial challenges. I remember doing farm work, including weeding.
During university, where I studied Environmental Management, there were times I needed to borrow money. Sometimes the help I hoped for didn’t come.
So I tried different things. Tailoring wasn’t something I enjoyed. I taught mathematics to JSS1–JSS3 classes and was paid ₦10,000. Hairstyling didn’t work out. I marketed beauty products, became frustrated and stopped.
I also lost savings to an online investment after trusting payment evidence that made it look convincing. I know what it feels like to want an opportunity so badly that you don’t ask enough questions.
Over time, I began exploring ghostwriting, content creation, video editing and other digital opportunities.
Then I started putting
what I learned to work.
Things began to change when I moved beyond learning and started putting what I learned into practice.
I became able to pay my rent, buy my laptop and support my family. I’ve been able to sponsor three of my younger siblings in school. I’ve also travelled outside the country—my first international trip was to Ghana.

Those milestones mean something to me because I remember where I started. I’m still growing, but I can see the progress I’ve made.
That’s why I don’t want us to stop at watching lessons or collecting information. Learning matters. Putting it to work matters too.
